Flat Flex Cable repair in the field

Hi,

Could someone please point me toward a technique for repairing simple FFCs quickly? My general use case is the repair of 4-8 pin cables in laptops and cell phones, normally after someone else was less than gentle with them. I ran across this problem 5 times last month, and waiting for replacements is a serious pain. I've been using fine sandpaper to expose the traces, then applying conductive epoxy and kapton tape, but is there a product that maybe has pins that stab through both ends of a broken cable to connect them? I give full disclosure about the nature of these hacky fixes and try to replace them with proper FFCs, but a better repair solution would be highly appreciated.

I did exactly that to fix an old Logitech computer keyboard.  Pushed a pin through the flex on each end, dab of hot glue and then soldered a wire between the pins.  Worked perfectly.

I dunno how easy it would be on a fine pitched flex though.

Hot glue is the missing link, thanks! I'll get some pins and practice a bit, then.

Just remember to check the metal pins your using are solderable.
