I have been exploring the "hidden" features on my Fluke 117 meter. For example holding down the "MIN MAX" button while turning the meter on (by turning the selector switch to any function) will display a "bEEP" on the screen and will disable the beep sound of the meter.
When I hold down the blue "HOLD" button and turn the selector switch to "Vac/HZ" the meter displays all the possible LCD characters. Releasing the "HOLD" button and the all characters display disappears and meter functions as normal.
When I hold down the blue "HOLD" button and turn the selector switch to "AUTO-V LoZ" the display reads "FCEy" (with the top bar missing from the "E" character) and the backlight flickers on and off. When I release the "HOLD" button the backlight still flickers but the meter does appear to function. If I turn the selector switch to "OFF" then turn the selector switch to any function, the meter operates just fine.
Is this normal for my meter to do this weird thing? What does "FCEy" mean?
