I acquired a Fluke 1587FC a few months ago which was faulty -- when switched "OFF" the circuit drew more current than when "ON". I tried cleaning the PCB & checked the switch. No difference as it still drew current when "OFF". Then I was given a Fluke 117 DMM that was also faulty. This one also drew excessive current when switched "OFF". The original owner had solved the problem by fitting a switch between the battery & the circuit board. Not exactly a neat job but it solved the problem.
I changed the switch for a better fit & now have a working 117 & did the same hack on the 1587FC so that is now working.
Apart from eating batteries both meters seem to work OK.
Am I just unlucky with the Fluke DMMs I have acquired or has anyone else had a similar problem?
