Fluke 199C no scope traces
« on: November 01, 2023, 11:04:09 am »
I'm looking at a 199C on eBay that at the very least has no traces displayed in 'scope mode.  I'm not clear it if still works as a multimeter.

Is this typically a fixable issue, and if so what should I be looking at?

Thanks, David

Hi,

First of all, before purchasing, you need to determine the availability of the battery and power adapter Fluke BC190.
If the scope has not been used for a long time, then the battery may have been deeply discharged (7.2V) or completely degraded.
You will need to purchase it separately.

In addition, the scope may not have an A201 memory module (Flash/SRAM).
If the A201 is lost or it is installed from another scope, it is possible that the calibration constants have been changed and the accuracy of the readings is not guaranteed.

The technical condition of the scope can only be determined by the reaction to its activation and by sound signals.
In any case, it's a lottery.

Hmmm... That sounds awfully like the OQ0260 ASICs have been damaged.   If that's the case I don't think I'll go there unless someone knows where to get them (apart from ripping them out of another 199C).

Thanks

Don't get excited...

What is the reaction (level of sound signals) when you turn on the scope?
-
Check all power supplies first and study the circuit diagram (SM).
If possible, heat the chips using a good flux and a hot-air station with bottom heating.
If you have the skill, start with channel A.
