FLUKE 233 LCD Shows Wrong Information
« on: November 17, 2022, 08:06:53 pm »
Hi,
I recently purchased a nonworking fluke 233 in hopes to repair it. The issue I see seems to be the display unit as I have a spare motherboard PCB and installed that and I get the same symptom. The
problem is the LCD shows incorrect symbols on (see pics), and when different modes are selected, multiple modes show enabled on the LCD screen. I probed the display PCB, and couldn’t find any issue so far, except I did discover an intermittent ground trace from the battery - terminal, which I corrected with a jumper wire. I know there are no schematics  of this that I can find, but used a Fluke 87V schematic as a guide, as it uses the same M430F448 chip. Also, and this is my main question, after further investigation, I looked at the LCD, and found that there is a 1/4” chip out of the LCD glass which is an area that the zebra strip sits on. I also found a crack on the LCD glass on the opposite side of glass which is also an area where the zebra strip sits. Does anyone know if these issues with the LCD glass can cause symbols to be on when they shouldn’t be, or just incorrect LCD information? I don’t have knowledge with LCDs, my main background is electronics but not that expertise. Thank you for anyone that can provide info!

Hi,
For anyone that might have a similar issue, replacing the LCD corrected my problem. Below is what the broken LCD looked like. I wonder if someone dropped the meter and that’s how it got broken, or if it was ever installed backwards? Who knows, I’m just glad it’s fixed!
