Tv boards swap firmware chips

I have a Vizio 651-a2r that the main board has failed, I am unable to find the exact board but have found a similar board that does work in the unit. If I go into system info it list the model number of wrong unit. The boards look the same other than firmware version. Could I swap the firmware chips to correct the info. The board is out of an 501-a2r. How do I tell which chip it is? Thanks Michael

Hi Hornnumb2, if the boards looks the same it will work.
The best practice is first to save the content of the memories in case of a failure.
Often the firmware is the same so you only must swap the eeprom  wich contains the data configuration to that specific TV model.

I think the flash memory at U4 (on the underside) would hold the firmware.

This is the board I purchased, I was told by seller that it wouldn't work because firmware was different so I am not positive about that. Just when you go into system info on the tv it list it as an M501D-A2R instead of M651-A2R. So I am not sure what I need to change, or just leave it alone...

I will check the firmware tonight when I get home and see if the version numbers are different.

A few weeks ago, I opened up an old TV that was having intermittent problems, problem was the user settings ("NVRAM") in Flash got corrupted, I just cleared it from the bootloader and it seems to be working fine. In short, there's the chance the Flash contents are the cause of the problem. If it works fine, just let it be.

Looks like I can update the board to the same firmware by just getting it on the network. It will just have the wrong serial number and model unless that’s a easy swap. Thanks Michael
