Fluke 8020A diagnosis of contact problems
« on: June 25, 2022, 08:39:58 pm »
I am proud owner of a Fluke8020A in cosmetically good condition. Got it for cheap as the seller on ebay mentioned some issues measuring current- like "you have to plug in sometimes several times to make it work".
The test leads are probably also the same age like the DMM, but are working. I disassembled the device, and internally it looks fine, the 4mm jacks are rock solid soldered to the PCB.
I will still have to use it under test conditions to determine whats on it, but in this case I would suspect some oxidized switches.

Question here: What is the best way to clean them, as they are not really disassemble-friendly?

I think the best way to get reliable operation of the switches is to use them frequently.  I have opened mine and the switches are nearly inaccessible.  Operating them many times increases their reliability and I think is the way to go.
