Fluke 87-3 goes crazy when backlight is turned on
« on: January 12, 2015, 11:16:25 pm »
Hi

So the titel describes it pretty well.
Have any of you guys had the same problem and know what might cause this phenomenon.
Sometimes it freezes with no segement lighted in the display.
Furthermore, the battery warning shows up when the backlight is turned on and it does not f*ck up. I have checked the battery.
Here is a video that will show a bit of the problem:

Best regards

Questions.

1) What is the current draw when the backlight is on?  I don't have 87 III, but I suspect normal current draw should be around 25 to 35mA with the backlight on.

2) Are you the original owner?

3) Did this problem just start happening?

Take a look at your rotary switch for debris and dirt.  See modemhead's blog entries.

It acts just like a battery with high internal resistance.  Check the battery again, this time under load.

For reference, normal current draw is around 0.81mA on VDC, 0.96mA on VAC.  With backlight on, about 26.10mA.

You spelled "title" wrong, no excuses for bad spelling on a computer.
