Good point. I was just going by the appearance. Interesting that the plastic encapsulated part has better leakage characteristics than the glass one. Sadly I lost my old lab/workshop so my Keithley 237 has gone into storage, otherwise I could have tried to measure it. I think I have some old GDTs and SPGs left over from when I worked in the land line telephone business.

Yes, I too would have expected a better device with glass insulation.
Looking more closely at the photo posted by the OP in the fourth post, only now I notice that the spark gaps do not seem to be factory mounted but would seem to be a subsequent repair, especially E2 gives me this impression.

I thank you in advance for your help, it seems to have been repaired but the photo was only taken after unsoldering, I have difficulty in getting the component but I keep trying. Thank you
