FLUKE PM6306 LCR Meter, Calibration and Service Manual
« on: September 09, 2014, 02:09:32 pm »
I have a FLUKE PM6306 LCR meter that needs to be calibrated.
But I can not find the Service Manual or a Calibration Procedure online at all.

May be someone here has the service manual available or knows of a place to get it?
Or may be just the calibration procedure.
Here is a picture of the LCR meter:

Thanks for any help.

Unfortunately, it is virtually impossible to find it free online.
Manual Plus has it and costs 55$.
Have you seen this item on ebay?
eBay item number: 171172698669
You can try to ask him the manual.

Thanks picburner,

I don't mind paying 55$ for the service and calibration manual.
The question is: Where to get it?
I asked Fluke and they claim it is not available anymore.
Although this instrument is still offered for sale - at least in Germany.

In regards to the ebay item, I made my own transfer standards for R, L, C.
I had the values verified by a calibration lab and they work extremely well.
All I need is the calibration procedure for the PM6306

I know that it is a very old topic, but I didn't want to make a new one.

I have one question: HighVoltage did you manage to get this manual, and if yes could you be so kind and share it with us?

Sorry to say, but after a lot of effort and even some money out the door, I was not able to obtain a Service Manual copy for the PM6306
However, I was able to get a Service Manual for the PM6304 and that one is very similar to the PM6306. The only difference is really the front panel interface.
Send me a PM with your email address, so I can forward you the Service Manual for the PM6304

These are amazing meters and I have bought a few more of them, repaired and restored them and they look like new now.
I have even painted one completely new.
Compare my first picture above.
One of them even has all option, including RS232, DC, GPIB

Yes, right, I uploaded it to the KO4BB site a while back.
That one I had to pay for to get it.

I have not given up on a SM for the PM6306
May be one day I will get that one as well.

Have you checked the calibration of your PM6306.

I ended up having one of my PM6306 calibrated in an official cal lab
and all checked values were right on spot and no calibration was needed.

So far I have not been able to locate the service manual for the PM6306.

Have you asked the "official cal lab" for the service manual?
How did they managed to do the calibration without the service manual?
User's manual usually have "performance check" but rarely the calibration procedure.

They have it!
But they are not allowing me to come even close to it.
I wanted to borrow it and scan it, but that was a big no no.

Which business-minded calibration lab is it?

I have a PM6306 with software version 1.2
My meter doesn't finish the zero trim on 100/120 Hz.
It seems like a software error. Does anyone here have that same problem?
Can someone read the ROM in the PM6306 for me so I can try a new (or older) version of the firmware?

Hope you can help!

If the zero trim fails, it is usually a cable connection.

What cable are you using?

If you are using an original cable with LEMO connector, make a short without the original cable and use some 2 mm banana plug cables instead.
If this work, you know the problem is in your cable or the LEMO connector in the instrument.

I don't believe it is a software problem.

Hell, I even used this twisted naked copper wires to do the on spot check and diagnostics at the seller's site when I bought mine.  :P

They were freshly stripped from phone wires though, so no tarnish at all and it worked just fine.  >:D

Cable broken? Even if only 100, 120 and 200 are faulty? Rest of the frequencies are ok.

Yes, I had exactly the same problem before on one of my PM6306.
In my case it was a bad solder connection on the LEMO connector inside the instrument.
The higher frequencies had no problem.

I checked the connections internally, there doesn't seem to be any bad solder joints on the lemo. I resoldered everything. Still the same.

The behaviour I am getting is that the unit sees a short when there is none.
When executing zero trim, the unit first tests short while there is none.
It only does it with 100, 120 and 200 Hz. The rest is fine (even 50 and 60, 300, 400, etc.)

Unfortunately the 6304 and 6306 are quite different inside... So I can't use my 6304 manual.
Does anyone have a 6306 manual maybe?

P.S. I really do appreciate all the help! Thanks!

Can you please take a few high res photos of the board, so we may notice something you cannot?

And a few measurements overlaid wouldn't hurt also.

What happens if you make a wire short like shown above between the red and black 2 mm banana plug receptors? (original Lemo cable not plugged in)
