HAMEG 303 - 5 horizontal axis troubleshooting
« on: September 14, 2023, 08:32:38 am »
I have recently acquired an old hameg 303 - 5 in what looked liked perfect condition. After two days of use,
the trace was no longer visible on the whole screen. Rather it seems to start a bit to the left of the center,
with a bright dot at the beginning of the trace. If i tune the x position, the whole trace doesn't move further to the left, it only shrinks or stretches. It doesnt however stretch or shrink linearly like when using the time/div button. Rather it appears to shrink/stretch more in some parts of the axis than others. The y axis
is working perfectly across the whole height?

If any of you were to have an idea about what the issue would be it would be very welcome, for i need to
use this oscilloscope on a daily basis and all of my work is completely haltet without it.

Thank you very much for any answer!

Old Hameg scopes are known for loose contact on potentiometers and switches, I' ve repaired many...
Often helps frequent actuation of those affected pots/switches. Some mild contact cleaner or IPA helps.

Thank you for your answer. I thought this was the issue at first as well, but after opening, i sadly discovered, that the contacts are all in perfect order and none of the caps are blown. I believe it must be a horizontal deflection issue. I just don't know where to look.
