Hameg HM 404-2 pixelated letters
« on: December 26, 2024, 08:10:14 am »
Hello,
I purchased a Hameg 404-2. It works normally as an analog scope. But what doesn't work is the display of the numbers and letters on the screen. These are pixelated. I have restored several vintage scopes (Hameg, Tektronix, Leader) but have no experience with this type of scope. Where can I suspect the error, which module is in question? What is the procedure? There is a circuit diagram, but it doesn't really help me. I checked the supply voltages and everything was spot on. Can someone help me? Thank you.

The numbers and letters on the screen are called "readout" in Hameg's terminology. So I would suggest to inspect the Readout Board (page 23).

I'm a former owner of this model and I've added a few pictures for reference on how the screen should look like. On power-up, there should be a Hames logo visible while the self test is running.

Can say I had lots of trouble with this model. Had to sent it for repair to Hameg service multiple times.
