Hello, My name is Simo, just a new member here, 34 years old, I'm a senior engineer in IT Development, lover of iot stuff and electronics and I'm happy to join you're forum ! I just received my first Oscilloscope, the HANTEK DSO5102P, I wanted to do a self calibration, the oscilloscope freezes and the screen goes black, when I wanted to restart it, the screen stays OFF and all the button lights are ON, waiting sometime removed the AC and turn on again, it worked, but about 10 min later when I was calibrating my probs when suddenly ( I pressed auto set ) the system complety freezes again with black screen, but it won't turn on again, the lights are still on. Is there anything I can do the restore the firmware ? and how to do it without having access to the screen ? it's very frustrating to have that experience with the very first time using a digital oscilloscope ... ::) ::) Thank you very much in advance and hope that I can also lean and help people around ! Welcome to the Forum. I'll try to answer but what you've provided isn't very much. Is the unit new or just new to you? If its more than a few years old, a common problem is power integrity and power dropouts/ripple caused by either AC input caps, HV filter caps or output filter caps. You can usually see problems with a close visual inspection. Bad caps will bulge and often leak. This is especially true of all large electrotytics- they have a limited life. The other caps to insspect are X and Y caps that across the line and line to ground on modern equipment. These are prone to failure especially certain brands like RIFA- notorious- replaced on sight. As a software oriented guy, you might be assuming that its a firmware issue- this is possible but not so likely. Get inside and get a good luck at the voltage rails- this is a great start. Get a hold of a schematic and parts locator/board layout- a service manual would be the ultimate if available. Do those checks and continue this thread, you'll have more responses and likely will quickly get led to a solution. Welcome John |

Hello ! Thank you for your swift answer. I bought the Oscilloscope brand new, I just received it, because we don't have any supplier or representative here, and also the return will be too expensive, I cannot do it ( I live in Morocco and it's very complicated to send it back ). For the schematic, I just followed the PSU outputs and they seem to work perfectly. all voltages are good ( 3.3, 5, 8, 14, 12 ... ), I tried to follow the circuit until to FPGA, NAND, the USB, everything seems ok. ( when I plug it into the computer it shows unrecognized device ), I will inspect the caps after I'll take some rest. By the way I do have the full schematic, I also contacted the support, they sent me a recovery file and the instructions to do it but nothing happens. I'll inspect the caps and let you know ! Simo, since the unit is brand new, a firmware improper load is more possible. The one risk of reloading firmware is that you'd like to make sure the hardware is working because you could "brick" the unit if the hardware failed in the middle of a firmware upload. Give yourself enough confidence that the unit will stay running long enough for a firmware load. Before doing the firmware load, make sure its likely to complete. Since you have a schematic- see if there are any voltages that are used only by the display. There may also be a line for display brightness, etc that could be bad. It may be that the scope is doing its job just not driving the display. Does the vendor offer and PC interface software so you can verify that the system is working. Another common problem on early failure is loose connections, etc. Inspect the power connections to the display module and verify power at the display. Inspect wiring harness and connectors for pinched wire or places where the pins in the connectors are misformed, pushed back etc. Can you correlate the "lockups" to something specific. I will look online and see if there are any notes about your problem on other repair sites. I found a site https://www.eediscuss.com/forum- that has multiple people experiencing problems similar to yours. There are several solutions offered, have a look there. Good Luck |
