Title: HELP: HP54825A Infiniium Hard Disk dead
Post by: Marco_Mar on July 14, 2023, 07:09:52 am
Hi Group,
need help.
My HP54825A InfiniiumOscilloscope
   Serial Number US39190300 VIN#025
   Software version A.04.50 WIN98
does not boot anymore: HDD is definitely dead.
Could someone share a disk image to mount on a new HD?

Thank you

Is a 54846B close enough?

I've been through this. I used a Linux installation CD and copied the partitions
via LAN to a safe place b4 it was too late.

OpenOffice on a scope looks weird. But it is much too slow to use.

regards, Gerhard

On some builds of this scope, when the Dallas NVRAM battery on the motherboard is dead the BIOS disables the IDE controller.
You can't re-enable it till the chip is replaced.
I think VIN 025 is one of them.

I have a 54810 that has been converted to 54820. The HD has been replaced with a SSD, before I bought the scope; The "ending in 5"  is the same scope with four channels. The change between the "10" to "20" scopes is a minor component change.
Apparently the HD has been a problem.software is the same for these scopes,I believe.
I do not know if there is anything on the HD that needs to be changed to work on a different machine, like maybe a serial number?I will send you a PM, perhaps you can contact the person who sold the unit to me and he may have the appropriate files. He is the one who changed the HD to SSD and it works just fine
I did buy the unit thru this forum, "Buy and Sell"Pretty nice scope.Have you removed the HD and see if it works outside the unit?

Many thanks to everybody.
Weird clicking noise comes from the HD and no chance to read it with other, external, controllers.
The Infiniium tries to boot but of course, it fails.

@Wallace Gasiewicz: sent you a PM

Bye

Here is a link to the Keysight Site for recovery software.  for 540xx units
A bit complicated as to VIN number (on back of scope) and type of floppy you have, so read it.

I happen to have unopened 54810-68742 package with the LS-120 floppy inside. This would work, would it not?
I am willing to open this magical time capsule for you and share the image :)

Hi,
TonyG has archived versions for 548xx scopes on his OneDrive. You should look look down into the subfolders there also.
There is also the modernising topic regarding the infiniium scopes that you might want to explore. It may contain useful hints aswell.
