Help Identify Fan Control IC
« on: October 29, 2021, 02:32:56 pm »
I'm trying to identify the IC in the Fan control circuit I'm repairing.
Markings: CF** (CFC3 in my case)
Package: SOT23-5

Here's the schematics I was able to RE:

I feel so dumb... earlier I dismissed my initial hunch that this is a voltage regulator of some sort. Now, after doing some more digging, this does look like a 3.3v buck controller using the fet to oscillate. This explains the difference in in/out voltage.
Now I have a couple of candidates for a replacement now, but still... which one is the original with CF markings?

To me it looks like an op amp. Q1 is the pass transistor.

This part (MCP6001U) has the right marking but wrong pinout (pins 2 and 3 swapped):

I think you are onto something... I forgot about the opamp.
The pin numbering in my diagram is not correct, the pins are there to show the physical location on the sot-25 package as I was reversing them. MCP6001U has Vss as the middle pin (#2), which is the GND pin (#3) on my diagram. I think it's a match and makes more sense than a buck controller.

Since your pin numbering is incorrect, I would just like to point out that this chip comes in several different pinouts.

I double checked and the MCP6001U seems to be a perfect match. Thanks again for the suggestion.
