Help identifying this cable please?
« on: August 24, 2017, 01:36:11 pm »
Hello, I love to try and repair older style test equipment and one that I'm working on is a Hameg 408-1A scope and it uses loads of this type of cable in both 3 and 6 cores as per photo. I thought it would be described as ribbon cable but on searching for ribbon I keep find the multicolored flexible kind which is not the same thing at all.

The cable I'm looking is solid cores and has to pushed into self gripping sockets have a push to release the cables mechanism. The cable on my old scope has been disconnected so many times now that the cores are fracturing and also because of that, it has been cut back and restripped that the leads are not really long enough now either.

I have no idea what the proper name is, but a lot of people seem to call it "ribbon jumper cable".

Example source:

That certainly looks like it apart from its got more cores then I need and the other really big problem, I need long lengths, some maybe about 500mm.

Found it on DigiKey as well. Big selection:
https://www.digikey.com/products/en/cable-assemblies/flat-flex-ribbon-jumper-cables/457?k=&pkeyword=&pv321=116&FV=ffe001c9&mnonly=0&ColumnSort=0&page=1&quantity=0&ptm=0&fid=0&pageSize=25

Unfortunately, their longest (457 & 558mm) are out-of-stock with a few week lead-time. However, it seems like it's Molex parts, so maybe some light googling on their part#s might yield an alternate source.
