Help identifying this car audio amplifier IC
« on: July 07, 2015, 04:02:38 am »
Hi,

I'm trying to add a line-in jack to an old car stereo (which has a busted tape player and radio), like the post-apocalyptic-inventor does here:

I'm trying to track down a datasheet for what appears to be a pair of main power amplifier chips.

They have the following markings:

(Philips logo)
TAIWAN
04652713
N62013
HSH9627  1

I've attached a photo as well.

Anyone have any idea how to construct a part number out of those markings?

This is out of a 1997 Dodge Ram, so "HSH9627" is probably 27th week of 1996.

I also see a 16-DIP chip from ST micro with part number 4652715, so "465271X" is probably a series house part numbers.

Yep, if this is an OEM headunit (i.e. factory fitted by Dodge) then it's almost certain to be a Dodge part number.  The device itself will be a standard part, you just need to hit the Philips datasheets and see if you can match up the pinout (it will almost certainly be a TDAxxxx).

Just probe around in there with a tone generator till you find a suitable injection point?

what is the make and model of the ICE if it isnt a stupid question, do dodge make their own ?

By ICE, do you mean Internal Combustion Engine?  Dodge doesn't make it, they buy diesel engines from Cummins (it's a Cummins 6BTA).  The truck is a 1997 Dodge Ram 2500.

ICE = In Car Entertainment. The stereo, the head unit or whatever you like to call it your way.

Welp, I probed the pins of the amplifier IC's with an oscilloscope, then poked around with a capacitively coupled signal generator.  I was able to get an amplified tone out of one of the channels, but then accidentally shorted two pins and it appears I have taken out the entire amp...

I've ordered a cheap class D amplifier board from china, have gutted the original electronics out of the stereo unit, and will hack the class D amp (with a line-in jack) into the stereo unit when it arrives.

check for   tda1552  tda1558   etc ....   since it is your audio amp output

Those are rebranded numbers chips to camouflage the real numbers.

The best way to add input  is near the volume control circuit, take an  3.5 mm jack with cut off switches, and you have to connect this before the volume control circuit,  maybe add some capacitors in line for isolation and or add trimpots to adjust it to a convenable volume.

Yes, absolutely.  It makes no difference what kind of amplifier IC the gadget uses.
The insertion point is well BEFORE the power amp chip.
