Help me identifying the diode
« on: January 02, 2019, 09:22:07 am »
Does anybody recognize the characteristics of schottky diode 34 30 on the picture (red arrow)? How could I test it?
May be this diode is the solution of reversed polarity problem on Minolta DiMAGE Scan Elite 5400 (production year 2004)?

This is a small scanner.

Hence; I suspect this is a SS34
Is a 3A diode hence 34 3.0amp

It may be a short circuit elsewhere.

Hence if you want to test it, best would be to unsolder it from the circuit board and use a multimeter in diode mode, just like any diode, conduct in one way only.

But like I said, it's more likely a short circuit elsewhere.

Thanks for suggestion.
Yes, I accidentally connected reverse polarity to scanner and after that there is no chance to switch it on.

Then you should check continuity of fuse instead.

Like on the circuit board, should be many fuses like marking FB31 for example.

From my list of components, 34 is RB160L-40 40V 1A schottky diode by Rohm. "30" is the date/batch code.
https://www.rohm.co.jp/datasheet/RB160L-40/rb160l-40te25-e

FB31 is a ferrite bead, not a fuse.

Oh hahahahaha, these miniature creatures, mA rated, no idea if it will sustain a direct reverse short circuit?    :-//

Question after reading the datasheet: reverse polarity could cause thermal destruction of diode?
