Help needed to identify ic marked c4x
« on: January 27, 2020, 04:59:39 pm »
I am trying to repair a bluetooth circuit board, no schematic available, that has an ic with 8 pins (four on two sides) with marking c4x. Could not find anything matching this
on google or smdmark.
Would greatly appreciate any help.
Thankas

Could we see a photo of the PCB?

You are positive it is 8 pin, and not 10 pin?

There's this in a 10 pin package - https://www.analog.com/media/en/technical-documentation/data-sheets/AD7946.pdf

Thanks fzakbar and latelesley. Here are two photos os the circuit board. I had removed two capacitors seemingly attached to it, as it is getting hot, but they seem OK.

It looks like a dual step-down converter, assuming the two larger passives are inductors.

Thanks fzakbar and sxn1. The ic in the link sent by sxn1 is 10 pin but the one on the circuit board is 8 pin. I have another similar circuit board on which the same ic is marked c4y.
I am not sure if this ic need to be replaced as it is getting very hot to touch.

Measure the voltages at the inductors on your good PCB. They should be the supply voltages for the other chips on the PCB. I suspect that the IC is getting hot because it is being overloaded by one of the other ICs.

fzakbar, thanks unfortunately the other pcb is also not working. If I had been able to identify and perhaps replace the ic, it would have helped. This belongs to a bose soundtouch 30 series III,
for which no circuit diagram is available.

I would identify the other ICs and determine whether their Vcc/Vdd pins are connected to either of the two inductors. This will confirm that the C4X/C4Y IC is a switchmode regulator.

I couldn't identify all the other ICs, but here are two of them:

Edit:

I'm assuming that your device is something like this (but with different pinout):
