Hello all,
I was given an MX-PS5000. I powered it on and used the iron from my 500. Everything powered up and it looked good except the power output shows 0. I tried a reset, tried the other port, tried tweezers but noting changes.
I’ve read on another site about D12 can be a problem on a number of these. I noticed before I opened it the tamper sticker had been torn. Once inside I removed D12 to test it and it shows fine. I show the proper voltages in the back. I think it is 48 and 24volts. What I did find is the 2.4v/8h nicad memory battery is dead and leaking.
There is an RTV type adhesive stuck to it that also has what appears to be a Crystal stuck to it as well. I went to remove the battery but didn’t see the Crystal when I clipped the battery leads. Oops…does anyone know what the part number is for that component?
While I was in there I also noticed that C73 is missing. It definitely used to be there from the looks of the solder pad. It is the bottom of 5 capacitors that are oriented in a column on the lower left side of the display side of the board. Does anyone know if Metcal or thermaltronics sells parts for these units?
Are there schematics available? I found some for the 500 but they are not the same.
Does anyone have the part number or value for that capacitor C73?
Thanks for any input on this.
Don.
