This makes the backlight on/off function in the menu obsolete.
Unless you satisfy the monk in one and link the circuit with the LED lighting.... 8)
No, it doesn't have to be. ;)

I think I'll be okay, I wouldn't turn the backlight off anyway. 😉

My only (minor) concern is that the new LCD has the contrast adjustment as a potentiometer on the back of the LCD. Assuming the LCD works, I'm curious if the front panel contrast knob will do anything anymore.

KungFuJosh:
While I'm waiting for the replacement parts to arrive, I repaired the front panel.

There was an obvious crack/break at the top of the panel, but there was another major crack hiding at the bottom. I also found another small crack hiding at the top later in the process of repairing the panel.

To start with, I broke the panel apart at the cracks so I could clean and then properly repair them. I used JB Weld Plastic Bonder, and it appears to be solid now.

Once the glue was cured, I added 3 1.5mm acrylic pieces to give additional stability where the cracks were. Once it was all cured, I sanded down the glue on the front, and now it's good to go.

...outside on my deck in the sunlight inside a bag covered in "SalonCare 40 Volume Creme" to hopefully whiten the panel better. YouTube makes me thing it will work. We'll see. 🤷

I had fixed the crack above the display with an adhesive that we also use for fixing components that are used in armored vehicles....I don't know if it would have been necessary to repair it again. :P

This will then be superfluous.

This was the result of intensive irradiation with UV light and the use of hydrogen peroxide.
I can't imagine that a cream will give the same result.
Either way, the problem is more likely to be protecting the now white front from yellowing, because obviously the white doesn't last long.
