How do I disconnect this flat flex?
« on: August 07, 2021, 09:57:25 am »
Hi all,

Not familiar with this type of FFC connector - having had a gentle poke it neither seems to flip up or pull out. Anyone know the correct way to open it?

It looks like something something I have seen in my Samsung LCD tv and in Motorola PMR radio gear.
The brownish piece of the connector is keeping the pressure on the flex and the white squares on the sides are locking the brownish part.
The white is either to press down or press inn, most likely to press inn.

The radius curve on the end of the brown part is a pretty good indication that it flips up.  If it is unwilling to do so with moderate lifting force on its edge where the flat-flex enters, try lifting it while pressing down on the outer ends of both white tabs.

Thanks guys - in the end I was too impatient and chose to fix the boards in place with a piece of styrofoam and some tape while doing the repair, so I didn't need to disconnect the FFC. Would have been fiddly to reconnect due to short cable...

Me again! And this time I really have to disconnect the FFC - though it is a different connector: some Omron jobbie that I can't figure out how to open. Don't want to use any kind of force in the wrong direction/on the wrong part!

Ha! After posting this I looked at the picture again - it's pretty obvious really: just flip up the black part at the back!
