I just bought a new multimeter (DT -somthing), just the cheapest. Anyway, I was trying to test the buzzer by injecting some voltage into it and I blew out the LM358 soc dual op amp. I removed it and powered up the meter, and guess what, it seems to work with the chip off the circuit board.
Why is this so?

5$ says the amp range won't work. :D
