Problem with reading VDC extech 520
« on: June 07, 2020, 01:14:34 pm »
Hello guys,

Well im new here and came along this page because I have a problem with my Extech 520. When I put it in VDC it reads automatically 370mv what should be near to 0. Now I find out if I put pressure on C12 the ma reading changes, tried with a other multimeter to look if I found a issue with it, as soon I put the pins over it the extech goes directly to 0mv.
Does anyone know what to do?

Ps. im new in those kind of things so I don't know what c12 is

With kind regards,
lucidivo

C12 is a ceramic capacitor but I don't think that component is the problem itself.
Hopefully a bad solder somewhere, hard to find but if it comes to the worst you just go through the lot of them, that's what I'd do considering the quality of Extech products.
If you're less lucky it could be a cut track or via, much harder to find because you can't use a shotgun approach.

I owned an EX530 for a very brief period, it had bad contacts too, they turned out to be on the black resistor network on the side. Still considering the equipment I'd go through the lot, sell it fast once it's working and get a decent DMM.

Here's the topic on the piece of rubbish I went over:
