How to start a DS1500-3 Astec server PSU
« on: June 03, 2018, 01:50:33 pm »
Hi All,

I  have a DS1500-3 Astec  server PSU  that I want to start. It should be able to provide  123 A on 12V.

I found the doc ( attached).

When I power  the unit, the fan goes on, and  the green light is blinking. This is normal.
But not I need to start it really.

I have connected the B3 (PSON) to GND, but this was not enough to make it go ( none of the other pins were connected).

Does someone has any hint ?

Thanks

This is what is in the doc :

Logic Control
PS_ON An active low signal that turns on the 12vdc power rail. When this signal
High, or left open, the 12vdc output turn off. The 3.3Vsb output remains on.

POK Is a power good signal to be pulled low by the power supply to indicate that
all the outputs are within regulation limits of the power supply. (turn-on
delay 100 - 500mS)

PS FAIL
In the event of a power supply failure (OVP at any output, UV at any output,
OTP or other electrical failure), this signal shall go to a High state.

AC OK High when AC is not OK, Low if AC is OK

PRESENT Low i f PSU is Present, High if not Present; Pull high in system.

FAN FAIL Low if one or both fans have failed

PS_KILL This pin shall quickly turn off the power supply and prevent arching of
the DC output contacts

With some additional search on the web, I solved my problem
https://www.xsimulator.net/community/threads/how-to-modify-a-server-power-supply-for-12v.5774/

To start the unit, one has to put both

B3 (PSON ) and B4 (PSKILL) to GND ( A2,B2,C2,D2).

I put B4 to GND, and a switch from B3 to GND. Everything seems now to be OK.
