So I needed to re-terminate the connection between the triaxial cable and the probe head of the AC probe for the HP 410C VTVM. The probe was quite beat up and was probably getting tossed around for a couple decades at the surplus shop that I picked it up from. The tube is okay though!
The grey 'boot' is where the faulty connection was so I needed to do some excavation of that material to make the repair. There was a void in there and I'm thinking the cable was actually able to move a bit. I would describe the boot as made of a medium durometer thermoplastic. The connections were made on the turquoise Bakelite piece and then the over-molded boot was made in some kind of two piece form.
My original idea to recreate the boot was to print a mold and pot it with either RTV, a urethane, or an epoxy but this probe is meant to have a bandwidth of 700MHz so that may need some special consideration that I'm not entirely aware of!
What kind of potting compound or material should I look for to remake this boot to ensure that I don't mess up the bandwidth of the probe?
