HP 16702A does not recognize mouse
« on: July 22, 2020, 10:57:40 am »
I have recently acquired an "untested" HP 16702A logic analyzer mainframe, planning to repair it if it's not DoA. And it's not (except a blown-out cap in the mains filter).

Now i try to boot it to make some more elaborate self-test, but it does require a mouse, in order to boot its GUI. I have connected a PS/2 mouse, but it does not reckognize it (there is no problem with a keyboard). Does HP-UX need any particular type of a pointing device?

Thank you in advance for you help  :-[

Adding a couple of pull-up resistors may get it working.

Thank you, but unfortunetely my unit has Rev.A of this board with no place for pull-ups (see image). Do you think, that just pulling up data and clock lines will be sufficient? I'll try to do that (maybe in the mouse, not in the 16702a).

EDIT:

I've added the resistors (1k) to data and clock line in the mouse but it did not help. I've ordered another mouse in order to see if it will work or not.

A regular PC mouse won't work on HP16702x logic analyzer, better to try an Agilent mouse,
I found this Agilent mouse worked on my 16702B( and PC) very well(I no longer have the 16702B),
it's an USB optical mouse with high resolution.

On my 16702B  a Microsoft IntelliMouse 1.2A works. It still has a ball.
Other identifiable text strings:  PN X04-72167   Product ID 63618-OEM-0290854-7    5199 (probably date)

There were other mice that looked similar with the same green PS/2 plug
that did not work.

Cheers, Gerhard
