HP 17B II Calculator Bad LCD

I have this HP 17B mk2 with a bad screen, as you can see from the pics there are a couple of columns out and there are often a couple more than in the pic.

I have not opened it up yet, but i wondered if this is a common problem and if they can be nursed back to health

if it's zebra strip on the LCD then i guess i am in with a chance but if the LCD has a hotbar to flat flex or something it might not be so easy

anyone with any experience doing this?

HP tend to make things difficult for repairers. I've given up now. When my 48GX display packed in I just got a 50G rather doing the dame jig. I actually bought a spare 50G today by coincidence as insurance against this one going to shit as there is no viable successor to it.

Maybe you have dropped it before, Try tightening the screws to compress the casing.

I did that with an old Motorola L7089 phone I had. Everytime I smashed it on the table it worked for another couple of weeks. After about 3 months I popped the LCD

Oops! Sorry, I read somewhere it plastic heat rivet....no screws....

I would leave it not opened.
