HP 3458A 8051 on ADC Board - Atmel v. Intel versions

I read the code from both an Intel chip, and an Atmel chip.

The code is identical. Therefore, there is no benefit to upgrading to the Atmel version. Like I did... although the exercise did prove the point for me.

Well, it's an 8051-Core. So they more or less have to be identical

But good to know that both chips work. Allows to choose the cheaper chip/the one still in production - If I remember correctly, Intel stopped making 8051-Micros.

I had an older A3 module that had 80C51 Rev 1 code on it and was able to install Rev 2 code and it works.
I don't know what the changes were to go from Rev 1 to Rev 2.

FYI the REV 1, REV 2 is what is reported when you execute REV? and the 3458A returns 9,1 or 9,2 (assuming you have latest main processor firmware Rev 9).
