Hp 3468 lcd connector
« on: May 10, 2023, 12:14:02 am »
I'm replacing the screen on my meter. The connection on the lcd seems to be the same footrint as  standard 16 pin DIP.  Is there a connector that would friction into such a thing. The hole size seems exactly like what you'd expect if you were gonna solder an IC there. I remember the original cable (which I lost) just press fitting into the old lcd.

I am looking for n something along those lines, but a press fit  into the lcd rather than soldering

The LCD has a DIP 16 pattern of through holes,  but I don't want to solder into them.  You can only get  to the top of the holes without wrecking the LCD.  I know I can solder pin into these holes and make a cable. I want something with pins I can just push in,  and have a friction connection directly to the LCD. This is how the original cable (that I lost) worked.

But that's what he showed you...
Maybe you want a premade cable? Not sure what the other end looks like though. Maybe take some pictures?

Oh, I think I get it - there is no socket underneath - they are just a press fit into the PCB through holes? Hmmm, that's a bit "how ya doing" from HP. Sounds like you need something like solderless pin headers, also known as press fit (or hammer pin headers, because you can fit them with a hammer). I think that i'd prefer to solder my own socket and use the header that I suggested earlier... or even use a standard pin header and use the common crimp type IDC cable connectors.

Wow, didn't know you could still get those - that's really useful to know. The female cable mount connector seems way more popular, perhaps because its a little safer if it is accidentally left dangling on a PCB.
