It is not unusual for thumb drives and SD cards to go into read only mode when approaching end of life. This is a deliberate action to minimise data loss. You should copy off everything you need asap. The condition is not reversible.

Yes it detected a flash cell block was bad, reallocated it and recovered the data using ECC, and has run out of spare blocks internally. Nothing you can do, it just does the read only so you can recover as much data as possible, and you need a new one.

Memory sticks do that when they're naffed. It's fail(ed|ing) internally, this is basically your last chance to get data off.

IME with SanDisk it's usually too late and you'll have naffed jpegs and stuff but this is anecdotal and they don't publish what qualifies as naffed, but yeah it's dead and it's telling you.

Because of the way flash works ("FTL mapping" and juggling space) vs say (CMR) drives it can basically say "nah I'm screwed" with authority and know it through routine use.
