HP 85102B key removal
« on: December 24, 2020, 03:09:33 am »
I'm cleaning the front panel of an HP 85102B IF section of an 8510C VNA. The front panel itself was easy to separate from the rest of the assembly, but the keys are also dirty and I'd like to clean them. I've attached a photo of the keyboard. Is it possible to physically remove these keys from the PCB? This is not absolutely necessary because I should be able to clean them as is, but it would make doing so easier since I would be able to soak the keys, put them in an ultrasonic cleaner, etc. I didn't see anything about their removal in the service manual. I gently tried to pull them off, but without success. Before I try with more force, I'd like to be sure they are actually removable. My understanding is that keys like these are typically designed to be removable. For instance, PC keyboards I've had have removable keys. Thanks!

I don't know the answer, but I'd look at the underside of the keys with a dental mirror or equivalent to get more information.
