M-Audio Axiom Pro 49 keyboard repair (firmware reflashing)
« on: January 22, 2016, 08:30:30 pm »
Check out this repair video. At some point I thought it was hopeless, but then found a hex file with the firmware on M-Audio forum. What a luck!
I wonder how did the firmware get corrupted in the first place? Was it a failed firmware update attempt using that OS X updater, some sort of a software glitch in the firmware or a hardware problem?

Hi,
I am trying to connect to the opal board using a arduino (in tri-state mode). Flash Magic just can't auto-baud. In others terms I don't succeed in communicating with the board. Please can you inform where did you find the python app and is it possible to use it in place of Flash Magic ?
Thanks

I am afraid I don't understand your question. What "opal board"? Why Arduino? Are you trying to reflash the firmware in Axiom 49 Pro like it was done in the video?

Hello feedback.loop, I like your videos, thay are very instructive! I learned a lot...
I'm trying to repair a 2nd generation 'blue screen' axiom 49/61 board...
It is mounting an C8051F34 microcontroller, this board is very different from 1st gen (?) TCM809 ...
It looks like reset line is permanently pulled up through a resistor, so probably reset is done by software.. tried to pull it down briefly but no luck... Maybe I should reflash it, but usb is not functioning at all...
Do you have any repair experience on this board ? Any hint on how to flash using direct serial connect ?

Thanks for help

No, I have never seen this version. Are you sure about the reset being permanently pulled up? It doesn't sound right. There is no substitute to hardware reset. Do you have a scope to check?

Yes that lowRST pin is pulled up... I'm going further in my investigation, and found that c8051f345 has an internal reset circuit... https://www.silabs.com/documents/public/data-sheets/C8051F34x.pdf

...and yes I'm using a scope.

I just found that the internal voltage regulator, which should output 3.3v at the VDD pin, when powering VDD rises to 2.88 and rapidly drops below 1.7V which is way below reset status... I'm fearing the microcontroller internal regulator is broken ... Don't know if I can hack bypassing it with an external 3.3v source... But it might also not resolve if this drop is caused by an internal or external shorted component somewhere.

I keep on trying... extreme would be replace microcontroller, but that would be my first SMD replacement attempt...

Any hint would be appreciated ;-)
Thanks for reply, keep you posted
Marco

Thank you for this video!  I am trying to fix my Axiom Pro 61, and am trying to use your method.  What kind of USB to serial adapter did you use?  Did you take it apart, or did it come like that?

I have tried another method with a Ulink2 and a homemade adapter, but I get a "Jtag Communication Failed" error when I try to flash the firmware that way.  I'm hoping your method will for for me.  Thank you in advance!

I got myself one of these works great https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32967291612.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.38.79001802tz1E4C

there is also another flash tutorial here that used a Jtag adapter

firmware for m-audio axiom pro 25/49/61 below :)
