| HP Spectre X360 does not detect AC adapter |

My daughter's HP Spectre X360, model 13-4120CA does not charge anymore. It doesn't even see that the adapter is plugged. Bought in 2017, few months ago the battery died and I replaced it with a new, after market one, everything was back to normal and she left it plugged while we went on vacation for a week. When we came back it completely drained the battery and it didn't charge again. I suspected crappy battery, and I still kinda do, but I've charged it manually and it works fine... from the battery. I would expect however that when I plug the charger, some sign to show up beside the battery, something to happen, but it doesn't. Steps that I took: 1. Cut the cell cover and measured each cell, they are balanced. 2. Opened the AC adapter, loaded it, It can supply 3.5A no problem. 3. I've soldered a new cap on the DC output, just in case its caps are dry, still not detected. 4. It has some diagnostics, I ran them, the AC adapter fails, the battery passes. 5. Checked the DC cable from the adapter to the main board connector, not only to the input port, ID is also there. I did not take the PCB out but on the top side I cannot see anything burnt. Anybody has experience with these amazing laptops? Didn't have any issue until the battery passed away of old age, amazing power management, my daughter #1 used it all day on battery in university and she passed it to #2 last year. Do you have a schematic? She's desperate ( and I am too that I have to buy another one ;D), any help is appreciated. Cheers, Miti Edit: Correction, it was unplugged during the 1 week vacation but most likely not shut down, she plugged it back when we came and took it to school for one day, it died suddenly in the evening and never recharged again. |
