HP34401A Randomly tripping out / blanking display when reading over 300vdc

Hi,

I just thought I would share this. My HP34401A started to trip out and blank the display when it was reading +300vdc. After a while I noticed sparking between K101 and E100. it looks like the spark gap has been rubbing the relay and it finally broke down the insulation.

Hi,

Did you hear crackling sound from spark before opening 34401A? Or did you find sparking only after debugging?
It is good that you found the issue, as otherwise it is tricky to find sparking problems.

Hi,

I did quite a bit of debugging. Then I saw a faint spark when I had the lights down. I could just hear the crackle after I saw it.
