HP3478A won´t leave SELF TEST
« on: June 02, 2022, 02:55:58 pm »
My HP3478A starts as normal with the SELF TEST. Under the "F" the display writes RMT, and in the lower right corner it writes " CAL    SHIFT". After a few seconds the display blinks very shortly, and rewrite the message " SELF TEST" but this time without the additional info at the bottom of the display. And it goes on like that. What can it be?  I´ve checked the DC voltages from the PSU, all OK, and no ripple. The backupbattery is 3V. Can I get a hint to repair, please?

Before anything else can happen certain parts must be tested successfully.
First pass is that.

Then if nothing fatal is found the meter tries to continue despite minor errors.
That is what you are missing.

Service Manual page 3-7 par. 3-60 and page 7-D-2 par. 7-D-9 explains more.
