Humidity Sensors

With humidity sensors, I know they tend to fail over time as the surface gets contaminated. I saw in a data sheet for one sensor a method of recovering was to heat it up to 90 ish degrees for 20 mins or so.

Is this a known method for recovering sensors? Does it work on most sensors?

I ask as I have one in the lab that has a linearity issue so I would like to see if it can be recovered rather than replacing the sensor. But I also get the odd one in that you can tell is in a dusty room and could do with a clean.
