My dad got one of those rechargeable USB battery packs and it recently failed, on opening it I found a charred resistor that was hard to read. I managed to make out 1R but the number after the R was hard to read, it looked like it could be either 1R5 or 1R9 :-//. I tried to use a soft brush to make it easier to read but that just made it worse |O, any guesses as to the value?

The link is a pic of the resistor after the brush attempt :

What might help is if you posted the make/model/identifying information of the unit you're playing with.
Somebody else has the same thing, maybe they'd be good to ya, crack it open, and see what their non-charred resistor reads...
I didn't take it apart.
I turned it on.

The only stupid question is, well, most of them...

Save a fuse...Blow an electrician.

It was a freebie so i don't have the model# but the make appears to be "Brookstone", Here are some pics of the casing of the unit, ignore the "north american td seminars" bit, that was the event that my Dad got it at:

if someone has one and is willing to take it apart the clear plastic part comes off with a spudger, and then there are 4 #0 phillips screws under the label on the end with the USB ports to remove the black piece.
