Ibanez Combo Amp: Unusual Input Jack
« on: December 22, 2022, 05:32:15 pm »
I have an old Ibanez SWX20 instrument combo amp with a broken input jack.

This would be a simple repair save for the fact that I am unable to find a suitable replacement part.
The shunt mechanism on the original jack is sprung on the left and opens on the right.
All the other jacks I've seen so far have this reversed, opening on the right.
Installing one of these would send the signal to ground.

Here's a typical jack found online:

Here's an album with photos of the amp PCB in question:

You'll notice in the photos that there is a metal grounding collar around the input. I believe this is for chassis ground, which is kept separate from signal ground by passing it through a capacitor. I haven't removed the jack yet but it appears to be a separate part.

I realize that a little creativity can get me around this but I'd rather find a matching part before resorting to hacks.

I've contacted Ibanez but I have not yet heard back from them.

I'm hoping someone here has the resources to help me find the right replacement part.

Anyone?

That looks like a Cliff S2 series socket, of the type BBBPCC

BBB = break, break, break contacts
PC = PC pins
C = pin in centre (other version is A where the pin is towards the front of each tab)

Turns out that Ibanez stocks these parts. I ordered one through a local dealer. It took like two months to get to me but I finally got it and made the repair. All good.
