Identify a resistor in a Yihua 1503D DC Power Supply
« on: February 26, 2021, 06:43:23 pm »
I just pulled this power supply to bits and found a blown mosfet and blown resistor, not sure what the ohms of the resistor is, can anybody help me.
My guess 0.18 ohms 2%, let see how far I'm out.

Sometimes colors don't look exactly right in photos and sometimes color bands can change when baked by an overheated resistor, so the question is are those red or brown?  They both look the same to me, so if they are both brown, it appears to be 0R18 (0.18 ohms) 1% tolerance, which is a plausible value.  If they were both red, it would be 0R28 (0.28 ohms) 2% tolerance, which is not as likely a result.  0.28 would be an E96 value, which would usually imply a tolerance of 1% or better.  (see the second link for an explanation) A quick check of Mouser confirms that there are no 0R28 2% resistors listed (although they do have 3% and 5%) but there are numerous 0R18 1%.  So I'd bet on brown.

A 3.5 digit 4.5 digit 5 digit 5.5 digit 6.5 digit 7.5 digit DMM is good enough for most people.
