Identify non-standard components.
« on: September 13, 2020, 09:12:59 pm »
Hi all,

I am new to the field and curious whether how can identify a components with short code if google doesn't return anything. As an example, attached IC (J8 FD) has few letters and nothing return when google.

Appreciate your support.

High frequency?

In those cases I turn to Taobao.
You need to identify the package, (knowing function can help too) search with package name and marking codes, confirm with pictures.

Great information

How did you convert "marking J8, WQFN-16L" into IC number?

Edit: to add additional quote:

Great information

How did you convert "marking J8, WQFN-16L" into IC number?

"Marking Codes" means that code that is written on the package.

Because many SMT components are so physically small, they don't have room to realistically write out the whole part number on the chip, so manufacturers assign short identifier codes instead (which are usually indicated and explained in the datasheet for the component.)

The trick is when you need to reverse those short "codes" back into actual part numbers, you need to figure out what part number the code (in this case J8) refers to, and there are often many totally different parts from various manufacturers that all use the same short marking code.  Therefore, there are many websites that try to provide cross-reference lists with the marking code, package type, etc. so you can try to work backwards and figure out what something actually is....

In this case, even googling the marking code and package type (J8 WQFN-16L) returns the likely proper result.  The biggest trick is often being able to specify both the code and package style.
