Title: Information or cross reference for obscure power supply IC
Post by: mcconkeyb on April 12, 2023, 06:09:49 pm
I'm trying to fix a laptop power supply from about 2012. The power supply is for an ASUS computer and has ASUS part number ADP-180HD D. I'm pretty sure that this power supply was built by Delta Electronics Taiwan specifically for ASUS, as they don't have a similar product in their line-up.

Inside this power supply on the primary side are 2 IC's. The MC33368D seems common enough, but the other seems very rare. It is marked as DAP015D on the top line, and DEI E4 9064211 on the second line. Can anyone provide information about this chip and more importantly can this chip be cross referenced to a common replacement part?

OK time to edit this message. I've now been looking for most of the day for information about the IC on the secondary side, and it too seems to be a very rare beast. This IC is marked with the STmicroelectronics logo, but STmicro has no information about it, so I'm guessing its a modified Chinese version of something STmicro once made. The top line is marked as DAS0017, the second line has the ST logo and GZ212. A datasheet or any information on this chip would be very helpful.

If I search for DAP015D, I get this datasheet, but it's for a different IC:

https://www.st.com/resource/en/datasheet/l6599at.pdf (https://www.st.com/resource/en/datasheet/l6599at.pdf)

If I view Google's cached version of the datasheet, I can find references to "DAP015" and "DAP005" (but not in the PDF):

https://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?strip=1&q=cache:https%3A%2F%2Fwww.st.com%2Fresource%2Fen%2Fdatasheet%2Fl6599at.pdf (https://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?strip=1&q=cache:https%3A%2F%2Fwww.st.com%2Fresource%2Fen%2Fdatasheet%2Fl6599at.pdf)

The suggestion is that L6599AT bears some likeness to DAP0015, and DAP005 is in the same group as L6562, L6562A, L6563S, L6563H and L6564.

FWIW, this is the datasheet for the DAP005:

http://monitor.espec.ws/files/dap005_119.pdf (http://monitor.espec.ws/files/dap005_119.pdf)

MC33368D is a power factor controller, as is the DAP005.

L6563A appears to be equivalent to DAP005:

https://www.st.com/resource/en/datasheet/l6563a.pdf (https://www.st.com/resource/en/datasheet/l6563a.pdf)

I would compare the pinout of the L6599AT against the DAP015. The L6599AT is stocked by both Digikey and Mouser (US$3.50):

https://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/STMicroelectronics/L6599ATD?qs=tmvhgT6IGaql74PhjqZwGQ%3D%3D (https://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/STMicroelectronics/L6599ATD?qs=tmvhgT6IGaql74PhjqZwGQ%3D%3D)
https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/stmicroelectronics/L6599ATD/2214423 (https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/stmicroelectronics/L6599ATD/2214423)

If you are feeling lucky / want to chance it: https://www.amazon.com/10pcs-DAP015D-Current-mode-controller/dp/B07CG39C32 (https://www.amazon.com/10pcs-DAP015D-Current-mode-controller/dp/B07CG39C32)

Otherwise, post a picture of the IC on the PCB / try to reverse engineer the circuit? The MC33368D is the PFC controller so the other IC is the switching controller. Just knowing the topology and the package size would narrow down possibilities on what the IC could be. It might be hard to find an equivalent part (if it even exists) though.

Are you sure the switching controller is blown and its not something with the power stage or other issue?

Thanks for your efforts. This does appear to be rare.
I'll have a closer look at the ST L6599AT to see if it might be an alternative.

Thanks for your efforts. I haven't figured out why this pwr supply doesn't work (yet). But I have figured out that the MC33368 is the PFC pre regulator, so the DAP015 must be the main pwr controller on the primary side. I've also got a DAS0017 on the secondary side, and it is also proving to be hard to find information on this device. But it should be the final regulator for the 19V output. Of course it could also be one of the several MOSFETs or big diodes (but I've checked these [in circuit only] and they seem OK).

You might also be right when you say that equivalent parts might not be available. Seems a shame that a power supply only 11 years old is now so old it can't be repaired.  :-//

FWIW, a search for DAS0017 turns up a different ST part number (TSM103W):

https://www.st.com/resource/en/datasheet/tsm103w.pdf (https://www.st.com/resource/en/datasheet/tsm103w.pdf)
https://m.radiokot.ru/forum/download/file.php?id=233052 (https://m.radiokot.ru/forum/download/file.php?id=233052)

This thread seems to confirm that they are in fact the same part:

https://www.phantom.sannata.org/viewtopic.php?t=38546 (https://www.phantom.sannata.org/viewtopic.php?t=38546)

The DAP005 datasheet states that ...

"This is a document intended for a specific Customer."

Therefore, it could very well be that the DAP and DAS parts are custom branded versions of ST's off-the-shelf parts.

L6599AT is looking like a good candidate to me ...

Edit:

I think that "DA" is a part number prefix used by Delta for its custom orders.

Here are examples I have found where people are repairing Delta PSUs:
