Title: Interesting YouTube repair channels
Post by: aluck on December 18, 2012, 03:24:52 pm
I stumbled upon these two channels, which you could find interesting. Both are about (sort of) DIY car repair.

1) https://www.youtube.com/user/scannerdanner (https://www.youtube.com/user/scannerdanner) This guy is from Rosedale Institute. Talks (and shows) different engine diagnostics cases. Several records are obviously shot by students and for students.

I envy his 9249 USD VERUS! http://www1.snapon.com/diagnostics/us/VERUS (http://www1.snapon.com/diagnostics/us/VERUS) Nothing special, just a very convenient tool. Basically, it is just a portable oscilloscope + multimeter.

2) https://www.youtube.com/user/ericthecarguy (https://www.youtube.com/user/ericthecarguy) He is also a Rosedale's graduate. Transmission repair, minor electric and body repair.

I downloaded ALL the videos (there are about 500 of them) to my player and watch them when a have spare minute.

If you also have similar channels to share - please do tell.

I was actually looking for some of these today so though I'd give this a bump.

This guy's just started a series of repairs (only 8 so far but hopefully keeps it going):https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5H5gCZ_2VFA&list=PLLltTMQ1ZkkGg9I9etorntFE8kPjwkYcT (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5H5gCZ_2VFA&list=PLLltTMQ1ZkkGg9I9etorntFE8kPjwkYcT)

Also this guy. Don't think he does many repair videos any more but there's about 40 here which cover a lot of different electronics:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w1jfSc2LZp4&list=PLB8F7DF0E2DE523AD (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w1jfSc2LZp4&list=PLB8F7DF0E2DE523AD)

Are there any electronic repair magazines these days? A quick google gave me something along the lines of television repair but not much else.

Norcal715 . very nice repair videos, quite informative and well explained: https://www.youtube.com/user/norcal715/videos (https://www.youtube.com/user/norcal715/videos)

Maxxarcade has lots of audio and other repairs mixed with computer builds and other stuff : https://www.youtube.com/user/Maxxarcade/videos (https://www.youtube.com/user/Maxxarcade/videos)

uxwbill ..  https://www.youtube.com/user/uxwbill/videos (https://www.youtube.com/user/uxwbill/videos)  (if you want just repairs, hit the playlists and there's a playlist there)  (ah i see tris already mentioned it)

A few repair videos mixed with other content (like reviews for older hardware) and some non-electronics related videos - i find him entertaining even if the video he uploads isn't repairs related.

ubuntututorials - https://www.youtube.com/user/ubuntututorials/videos (https://www.youtube.com/user/ubuntututorials/videos)  <- channel of a member of this forum (and another forum) ...  name doesn't really fit, really very little (if any) ubuntu on it.

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6SZfovWpIZ9yVKJW28fvUg (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6SZfovWpIZ9yVKJW28fvUg)  This guy is a member of this forum.  Check out his repair briefs if you ever need help diagnosing an amp or receiver.

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCc--CFzOjEViwUwrMCOGVhg (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCc--CFzOjEViwUwrMCOGVhg)  Maxxarcade.  Someone already posted this but I second it, he's a good technician.  Other than liking my little pony cartoons, this dude is pretty cool.

DIY theme?
Davidsfarm:
Old videos: https://www.youtube.com/user/davidsfarmllives/videos (https://www.youtube.com/user/davidsfarmllives/videos)
I recommend you start from the beginning.

Have you ever wanted to see a spun bearing glued to conrod and then the cap welded on it, now you can.
Changing timing chains by cutting it in half, ziptieing it to old and then welding it back together.
All kind of absurd redneck repairs.

New account with nothing fun on it: https://www.youtube.com/user/Davidsfarmison1/videos (https://www.youtube.com/user/Davidsfarmison1/videos)

2 cents of  pudim or jelly...

and $2 of facts of life:
- Brazilians just have no access to instruments "brands" at sane values
in figures a DMM or SCOPE of some brands here costs exactly 3x times
the value you have on ebay or elsewhere

- You will see how to do GPU and BGA w/the crappy cheap DMM
No expensive scope not even microscope...
Just basic "what you get" tools
  and damn good will.

From the GPU folks which manage to fix the top latest VideoCards
costing here also 3x times the price - in about 15 20 mins. flat.

GPU CHANNEL (FIX and CLASS)
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCz3DGcwyTrSI4Ju4V4caJkw/videos?view=0&sort=dd&flow=list&disable_polymer=1 (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCz3DGcwyTrSI4Ju4V4caJkw/videos?view=0&sort=dd&flow=list&disable_polymer=1)

The brazilian folks here devoted to comparing upgrading and teaching BGA techy

BGA CHANNEL (COMPARISON and CLASS)
https://www.youtube.com/user/ftecnet/videos?flow=list&view=0&sort=dd&disable_polymer=1 (https://www.youtube.com/user/ftecnet/videos?flow=list&view=0&sort=dd&disable_polymer=1)

which btw also costs here 3x times upon importing.

What you see is 99% damn need to supply the demand for repair..
almost impossible to deal with. And sick of crappy taxes to support.

btw.. you won't see cats there...
Paul
