ipad 2 activation lock

I have a friends ipad 2 A1395 thats locked,he has had it for a few years and was using it,he said one day it went wierd on him and locked him out,he has tried all his passwords he can remember but no go,if  connect it to my pc and can see the pics he has on it,sort of confims he was using it to take pics at least,is there any way to sort this,ive watched a pile of youtube vids on this and downloaded a few softwares to unlock it but just says device not supported although its supposed to support this model,any idear what i can do,he is a good friend tho and i want to help him out.

contact apple? They kind of pride themselves on security and any decent security these days cannot be broken with some dodgy software you may find online. If you do find some chances are it will lock your computer and demand a ransom

I'm not sure if this exact case is possible but I recommend looking into the darker parts of the Internet.
