Is the website "manualsdrive.com" legit??
« on: February 09, 2016, 11:45:27 pm »
I've just started looking around for the service manual for my Samsung Series 7 Chronos (700Z) laptop and found that Samsung manuals are very hard to locate.... however, I have found a website that SUPPOSEDLY sells it - along with every other manual for it.  From what I gather, they claim to source them from the manufacturer and it is a "pay per document" deal.  I can see this being legit due to the ridiculous cost for a service manual (90 Euro for my Samsung 700Z service manual) since I am certain Samsung would want to be paid for that information.

Does anyone have any experience with them and know whether they are legit?  Since my laptop was tip-top of the line when I bought it and likely wont be obsolete for at least another year, I think that it may very well be worth the 90 Euro - and cannot find the service manual anywhere else.

Here is the link.   You can go through the motions with an email address and see their terms of service and fee.

Wow, good to know!  Thanks!
By the way, checkout the: http://laptop-schematics.com/

Their watermark is plastered on all schematics of Louis Rossman's videos (checkout his youtube if you're not familiar with him) and he repairs Apple laptops. Might be worth a look for Samsung.

edit: I checked for you and they don't seem to have it on the website (they have other models), but they say to contact them if you're not finding it on the list.

Thanks for looking!  I'll definitely send them a request.  I've watched some of Rossman's videos but never noticed the watermark on the schematics.

For now, it still works OK, but it's got a funky issue with the cooling fans - quite possibly my fault though, since I tripped over the HDMI cable and launched it across the room before the problem started.  I don't know much at all about the circuitry inside, but I think I may have broken or dislodged something in relation to the fan control. It acts like its kicking them on full speed and then backs off - repeatedly. For a crude example, what you would hear is "whir, whir, whir, whir.. .etc" when it should be regulating the fan speed in relation to the CPU/GPU temps and airflow. I did clean it all out, though, so it's not that.     Anyway, I may start a thread on it sometime if I can't manage to figure it out rather easily when I do finally dig into it.

Thanks for the help, though!   :-+
