John Deere Climatic control. Defect potentiometer
« on: June 18, 2024, 07:45:47 pm »
Hi Forum,
I have a John Deere climatic controller with 3 potentiometer with defect resistor values snd wrong behaviour.
Does any body known the manufacturer of this devices?

Thanks a lot

I believe it is the Panasonic EVQVVD00203B.
There is also a resistive rotary position sensor with a similar shape, made by ALPS or Bourns, I believe.
I would have to see the circuit to be sure, but I think it is an encoder.

We also found a resistive rotation sensor with the same shape.
Please check the circuit.

Thank you both so much!

The Panasonic type fits perfectly, now I need to check where to order in Europe.

The PCB has a hidden internal battery and the MCU has already detected tampering and entered a fault state, so it will require dealer codes to unlock it.

Ok, I'm mostly joking, but you never know with John Deere.

Only a little exaggeration.  You had to use JD branded tires and have them installed at a JD authorized shop.  JD was at the epicenter of the "right to repair" movement in the US.   With much ballyhoo, a settlement was reached last year (https://www.bbc.com/news/business-64206913 ).  It may help, but it will not solve the problem.  The devil is in the details.  As an example, look at the Apple right to repair conditions.

Thanks to Psi,
you made my day  ;D
I just started to search before reading the second line of your post...

@jpanhalt:
to be honest, I received this controlled from a friend who's working in a JD service center. He ask me if I can search on component level because those spare parts are running out of stock.

I disassembled the 3 sensors and measured the values.
They are variable resistors with 4k7 ohm max value. It seems to be linear.
I saw that the connections into the resistors are dark black/blue. I would guess they received some humidity or some other dust (???).

My first try would be to find other resistor give the PCB back to my friend for testing (without housing). Let's see if this is the issue.

If you search for "Panasonic EVWADF001B14" all the major distributors seem to have these; Farnell, Digikey, Mouser etc.
