Juwel aquarium integrated lights

I have looked on second hand Juwel Rio aquariums and so many come without the lighting unit because it seems they break so often.

I have bought two Juwel tanks and both units did not work. One is in pristine condition, no signs of damage, no water in the tube holders, it looks positively new. Yet it is broken. I did try to prise open the other one, but it is sealed/welded shut. You'd need to cut through 100cms length of plastic to get to the insides I think.

Has anyone got experience with these units and have you tried to repair them?
