Keithley 182 VFD High Voltage Repair
« on: September 30, 2020, 04:34:06 am »
About two years ago, I bought a damaged Keithley 182 on eBay (for $300 plus shipping). After inspection, I found that the high-voltage power module of the VFD was damaged. Since I couldn't find a suitable replacement, I decided to make one myself using the components I already had on hand.

It is a typical application of 34063. The values of all the components in the schematic diagram are consistent with those actually used. The 8V input comes from the tantalum capacitor C544 before the regulator U514, and the 55V output is connected to another capacitor C554.

I did not remove the original high voltage power module from the PCB, but cut off its output pins (see picture).

A small aluminum enclosure is used to suppress EMI, and it is connected to the tab of the regulator U514. I used 3M Command strips to fix it in place.
