« on: August 26, 2021, 09:16:36 am »
Hi all, long story ,a few weeks ago i sold a laptop to a friend cheap, they payed half the moneys for it then said they would pay the remainder on payday, the lappy was spoton when they took it,when it came to finish paying for it they said the screen was iffy and didnt want it,i refunded them and took it back,i would like to know if the issue is down to abuse or if its the video card or screen pannel, what do folks think?,its a dell inspiron 1720 with a 2.5gig cpu and a seperate video card.

LCD mechanical damage. Your friend is a scumbag. Somebody probably sat on it or something like that.

Looks to me as they closed the lid down with some wedged between the screen and keyboard.

With it powered off and oblique lighting from the side, look at the surface of the screen in the damaged area.   You'll probably see indentations from whatever object it was closed on that did the damage.

Probably it could work since that was a small damage without the glass braking, and it wasn't fixed entirely. When I inspected black spots like on your display under microscope, I've seen circular cracks in the glass somewhere in internal layer. If you try this, black spots most likely will become even larger.
