Laptop lcd 17 inch to a 15inch laptop with CCFL
« on: September 13, 2015, 07:50:39 am »
Hello to all,

i am a longtime fan of Dave, and i love his Dumpster dive videos(MOAR DAVE PLEASE).

So i acquired a nice laptop from work(fried motherboard) so i parted it out 2nd time(someone got ram/hard disk before me).I got the lcd and i didn;t saw any cracks on it and i put it on the shelf along with my other computer pats. Since i was going to purchase a lcd controller board(so i can make it my 2nd monitor) i thought i could connect this lcd to a old laptop my father uses that has same technology(ccfl but 15'inch).

I connected it screen comes on backlight is ok(even i didn;'t connect the 17inch inverter but the 15inch one to the 17inch lcd) but screen comes a little reddish.

So my question is. This redish color is because the cable is not correct to drive the 17inch lcd or because it;s maybe screen is broke?

I just want to know before i buy a lcd controller board and connect it and have a red monitor forever :P

"reddish" as in slightly tinted, or is the whole blue channel missing? You can try some test images to determine that: http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/

If it's just a slight red tint, the CCFL could be worn out, or not receiving enough current since you're not using the original inverter for it.
